ENFIELD - Clarence J. “Clem” Karakla, 88, of Enfield, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 24, 2018 with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary (Kincman) Karakla who passed away on January 7, 2015.  Clem was born in Feeding Hills on May 19, 1930, to the late Izydor and Dominika (Bocwinski) Karakla.  He had resided in Enfield for the past sixty-two years and prior to that in Feeding Hills.  He was a communicant of St. Bernard Church and an usher at the church for many years.  After thirty years of service, Clem retired from American Airlines at Bradley International Airport and also worked at local funeral homes in the area.  He was in the Air Force from 1951 - 1955, part of the 435th Troop Carrier Wing stationed at Miami International Airport.  During the Korean Conflict, the wing was reactivated in 1951.  He was very proud of his Polish heritage.  He loved Polka music and started dancing to it at the age of 19.  He especially enjoyed listening to the music of the Ray Henry Band.  He and his wife, Mary, attended local dances in the area and also traveled to various Polka Festivals.  He was a charter member of the Polish American Club in Feeding Hills, a member of the Polish American Citizens Club in Ludlow, the TKB Club in Rockville, and the American Legion and VFW in Enfield.  Clem was an avid sports fan of the Boston Red Sox, Patriots and Bruins.  He never missed watching a game.  He was also a fan of NASCAR.  He leaves two loving daughters and their husbands, Kathleen A. Karakla and Steven Richloff, Karen M. and E. Arthur Enderle, III all of Enfield, a granddaughter and her husband, Alyse Enderle and Kenneth Conley of Enfield, a sister, Bernice Sobinski of West Suffield, and numerous nieces and nephews and his beloved grand dog Betsy.  Besides his wife, he was also predeceased by his siblings, Edward, Wallace and Frank Karakla, Valeria Zukowski and Helen Zera.  Clem’s family would like to offer a special thank to the people who took care of him, Ann Karakla, Nancy Pisieczko, Laura Owens, Debbie Nadeau, Dawn Leghorn and Krystyna Podbielski and the staff and volunteers of FADC.  The funeral will be Friday, Nov. 30, 2018 at 9 am at the Browne Memorial Chapels, 43 Shaker Road with a procession to St. Bernard’s Church for a Funeral Mass at 10.  The burial will follow in St. Bernard’s Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday, Nov. 29, 2018 from 4-7pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Felician Adult Day Care, 1333 Enfield Street, Enfield, CT 06082 or the Dakin Humane Society, 171 Union Street, Springfield, MA 01105, where his good buddy, Gretchen, his cat, was adopted from.
